Mother Knows Best
It is time to get excited! Tonight the much-anticipated locally-produced film ‘Mother Knows Best’ is premiering at Philipsburg Cultural Center!
Written, produced & directed by Atahlia Daye Rogers, the hour-long movie is her debut film. After a long history of writing and directing stage-plays, Daye decided it was time to bring one of her screenplays to life on screen, which would bring her stories to a wider audience.
The film is about a single mother, who is raising a teenage daughter. The mother struggles with parenthood, and the path she has to take to be the best parent she can be. Her daughter deals with issues of growing up, friendship and bullying. Together they find strength in God and each other, as they figure out these questions and hurdles.
Daye approached videographer and Editor Ricardo Mardenbrough to help her in this venture. With tremendous support of her family, friends and the community, the production got off the ground. The film stars a number of seasoned and first-time actors and actresses, including Jessica Rogers, Tyshelle Daye, La-Vaune Henry Hodge and Neveah Brown.
While the production was on its way, Daye, the crew and cast received a lot of support and positive feedback. Daye: “So many persons were happy to see a locally-produced film being made, everyone was very encouraging in the process and I am excited that we can now show the final product of our hard work. Only a small group of persons has seen the finished product thus far, to tweak any last-minute edits, but the response has been extremely positive! I am nervous, but also very excited for the premiere.”
