Coming later this spring, the cast of BEHIND THE BEYOND Theatre Lab will be performing a classic comedy play “The Government Inspector!!!!”
Performed all over the world (including the Caribbean), in many different forms and in as many different languages, this satirical masterpiece is a timeless brilliant farce of all the public vices: bribery, embezzlement, laziness, servility, lust, intrigue, arbitrariness inherent in people, no matter in what century or country they live.
The driving force of the play is the fear that arises after the historic phrase of the mayor: “The Inspector is coming!” Increasing from action to action and paralyzing all the characters in the final of the play: Fear, so familiar for light-fingered officials at all times. The play is a comedic parody of mistaken identity, and the misfortunes of dealing with a society that relies on its vanity to fulfil its own greed.
BEHIND THE BEYOND Theatre Lab believes in the giant potential of St. Maarten’s community. Director Albina Matuzko says, “I believe that whether you have experience or not, every person is authentic. To explore this authenticity and let it shine is the goal of our community theatre. Escape from daily routines and frustrations could be important for your overall well-being! Theatre is a great tool to deal with St Maarten’s reality nowadays. Allowing yourself to look at our situation with humour can transform yourself and the world around you.”
