We all want success. We want the freedom to do what we want, with whom we want when we want. That’s success in a nutshell. Whether you’re looking to build real-estate projects, sell the most socks on the internet, become the next Olympic champion or create a family, success is really about freedom. We want the freedom to do what inspires us. We want the freedom to check things off our bucket list. We want the freedom to spend time with those we love most. Success goes way beyond flexing the newest sneakers on Instagram or buying piles of all things Gucci. Success is about maintaining a lifestyle that is fulfilling and rich with experiences.

Success is about challenging yourself and setting clear goals. It’s about sacrificing immediate gratification for the bigger prize down the line. It’s about personal growth and developing yourself into the person you’ve always wished you could be. Success will not manifest out of thin air and it will not fall into your lap. You have to be intentional and put in work every day to achieve those small milestones required to get you closer to living the exact life you want. If you’re ready for success, if you’re ready to take accountability for your life, and if you’re ready to surprise yourself with how much you’re capable of, start here:

 Remove blame

Life is tough. Every person has their own traumas and setbacks that have gotten in the way of their dreams, warped their thinking into believing they are incapable and has filled them with fears and doubts that act like an invisible barrier that prevents them from moving forward. That’s life. Tough things happen. But it’s our responsibility to overcome the hard times we’re presented with. In every challenge there’s a lesson and that lesson can help us process through difficult situations and give us valuable information we can apply to our own success journeys. Instead of blaming the world for your troubles, search for the purpose in them.

 Get clear

What is your definition of success? What are the things you would regret most on your death bed if you never accomplished them? Why are these things so important to you? Asking yourself these challenging questions will help you to get clear on your goals. If you have not set a destination for yourself, you will be ambling through life aimlessly. Get clear and start visualizing what your idea of success looks like to you. Make this a daily habit and you’ll see that the clarity you’ve developed will slowly start to walk you towards a new life of success.

 Feed your mind

Read books, take classes and consume knowledge. The internet is a wonderful place filled with free resources for you to educate yourself. From videos, blogs, online magazines and audio books, you can offer yourself a university level education in nearly any subject if you made learning a regular part of your life. Challenge yourself to learn something new every day. Learn more about your industry and truly make yourself an educated expert. Take online courses and get certified in a new skill. Read about the world. Get curious. Feed your mind. Ask any successful person and not one of them would tell you that they got to where they are through maintaining ignorance.

 Take care of yourself

There is a mind body connection that we often fail to recognize. If the body is sick, the mind is sick; if the mind is sick, the body is sick. This is why it is equally important to take care of your vessel as well as your mind if you’re looking to perform to your highest potential. Be mindful of what you put inside your body, including sugar, alcohol, cigarettes and any other substance that acts as a toxin.Overindulgence in vices can not only compromise your cognition, but it can also prematurely age you, robbing you of years of quality living as you suffer through preventable ailments. Move your body and exercise. It helps to regulate your mood, boost brain productivity and mitigate preventable illnesses. Just take really good care of yourself. You only have one body and one mind, treat them well.
