Through Cam's Lens: Apple Love

“Start spreading the news, I'm leaving today

I want to be a part of it

New York, New York

These vagabond shoes, are longing to stray”

I’m home.

Not home like in my house in Sint Maarten, but I meant home like New York. The concrete jungle. The city that never sleeps.

So of course, I waited until about 2 hours before I needed to be on the airport to pack my duffle bag. I usually do that because I like the adrenaline rush, but this time it was just the way the cookie crumbled.

I only got to do my laundry on a Sunday night, so there was no way I could have packed that night. Also, I had a 9am hair appointment on Monday, which was followed by a barbershop visit. I  didn’t forget anything though, at least nothing that I missed yet. When I finally left home, I still needed to go to Marigot to meet Castel, as he was taking me to the airport. TAXI!

Man, that airport was hot. As much as I tried to stay in one place to cool down, the line kept inching forward so I was forced to keep moving.  There was like 40 thousand people on the airport and while that is a good sign for the airport, it didn’t help with the heat. Not to mention I swear that I was about to miss my flight.

There were so many people in the TSA, security checkpoint line thing. Twenty minutes before departure time and I’m in line playing Dream Blast on my phone, seemingly unbothered. I figured that at some point they would call our names and rush us to the front. Some lady did come and organize the lines. That made us go a lot faster.

Made my way towards the plane. Hugged my beautiful cousin Yasmin before I boarded and before I knew it, I was asleep and we were airborne. *Spidey senses tingling* Wakes up just in time to get food. I spent the rest of the flight binge watching Blackish, drooling over Yara and thinking about how much Bow reminded me of Shari.

Quick stop in Atlanta and your boy needed some real food. Made my way to a Panda Express and got me dah fowl! Caught the shuttle to get to my gate and in no time I was airborne again. I  wrapped up Blackish on this flight and watched a little bit of Robin Hood.

Side note: I hate earbuds. Eww.

NEW YORK. NEW YORK.

It felt so great just touching down! This place is really special to me. Yellow cabbed it to the crib AND didn’t leave a tip for the unenthused taxi driver!

I’m going to keep you guys in the loop with all the happenings, so stay tuned in to Facebook and Instagram for the movements.

I’ll be back in St. Martin for next week’s piece, but until then. See yuh!
