It’s my birthday
It’s my birthday
I’m-ma spend my money
It’s my birthday
It’s my birthday
I’m-ma live my fantasy
So… my birthday isn’t until tomorrow; but in the spirit of informing, let’s discuss it a bit today. Think of it as warm-up.
“I’m-ma live my fantasy” – not too sure about that. The agenda for my birthday last year involved running a 5k with my training partner Alan, who posted an embarrassing picture on Facebook, of me lying on the couch. The year before that, one of the things I did on my birthday involved getting a personal record on a heavy Olympic lift at the CrossFit box. Who wants to guess where they can find me tomorrow to bring cake? [Coordinator: I fell asleep reading this.]
Birthdays have never really been a big deal for me, even as a kid. Parties never made sense to me. Taking all this money to buy food so that other people could eat and having to spend hours setting up and cleaning up. Ewww... why not just take all that money and spend it on capital ME? Seems like the most logical choice. No? [Coordinator: This is actually not innovative; it’s called being a normal adult.]
Having a birthday was a pretty interesting time of year in high school, though. It was the time to put together THE freshest outfit to come to school with and show off. [Coordinator: Peaked in high school! Did we, Cam?] Oh Adrian (Joseph)! [Coordinator: I just had a Rocky flashback.] Adrian’s birthday is just about a month before mine and there was one year when he came to school mad fly; but I couldn’t have been more upset. He wore the colour scheme that I was planning to wear. Panic. Turmoil. Stress. Guess who had to go get an entirely new outfit to wear? This guy. From that year onward, I never bought my birthday outfit until after his birthday had passed. It’s funny how this came back to mind all these years later (lol).
Another thing that’s interesting around the time of my birthday is hearing the infamous line: “I knew you were an Aquarius!” My birthday falls in the Aquarius season; I’d like to think that it’s pretty obvious (lol). Though astrology and horoscopes aren’t things that necessarily peak my interest, what does get my attention is the grouping of character traits. For examples, persons that are Aquarius are supposedly shy, quiet, progressive, original, independent, deep thinkers, are able to see without prejudice and humanitarian. [Coordinator: Stop blaming your sign, you’re just boring.] They run from emotional expression, temperamental, uncompromising, aloof, likes fun with friends, helping others, fighting for causes, intellectual conversations, are good listeners. They dislike limitations, broken promises, being lonely, dull or boring situations, and people who disagree with them. Astrology and horoscopes aside, it’s very possible to do studies on groups of people and use the information to match the data. It’s just a bit unreal when you can read through these character traits and see so much of your own traits on the list. [Coordinator: Did you just pad your word count with astrology facts? Well played.]
Growing in age and maturity over the years, I’ve simply used my birthday to do things that I love and to reflect a bit, looking back at successes and failures, and looking forward to plans and goals. There’s usually some type of pizza involved, though; a hot thin-crust, mushroom pizza. In the words of Nicki Minaj “Buss it down” – though, I’m sure that’s not what she meant.
Cues 50 Cent - In Da Club (So cliché)
[Coordinator: *Rolls eyes and allows this as it is his birthday.*]
