"When it’s all said and done
You and I are the lucky ones
We fought many
And we’ll fight the night until we see the sun
We are the lucky ones”
So there’s this video that I was supposed to make about a week ago. You know it’s Bobby Shmurda in the house. LOL.
Needless to say I have not made said video and this is my attempt to have you keep me accountable. I feel like if I’m giving you guys this Fuego content, asking you to keep me accountable is a fair exchange. (And that aint even been robbery, ah Ashlee.) Today’s piece is basically going to be a skeleton or a script of how this video is supposed to go. As you may, journey with me.
Aight bet.
A lot of people know of me. Oh, hey, you’re the photographer guy. Oh, hey Cameron how’s it going? (I have no idea who this person is). Stuff like that happens quite often and it’s perfectly fine. What makes it weird is the expectation that people have of me. Social media Cameron and in person Cameron are NOT the same person. I’ve been trying to find some middle ground for the two to meet, but it’s still a bit of a challenge.
Social media Cameron is loud at times, humorous, active, and well, obviously very much social. In person Cameron is QUIET, smiles on occasion and is very, very “fly on the wall”. That must throw people off. Even my writing voice presents me as so much more animated than you’d see me in person. Unless you catch me at the gym. Lol.
By nature, in person Cameron is more of the real Cameron. On social media I understand how important the interaction and engagement is for my career, so I do it. In person, it just requires so much more energy than I have at times to be social. Pretty introverted.
Also for my style of photography, it’s more effective when I can blend in and people forget that I’m present. That’s how you get those pictures your grandmother wants to hang in her living room. Making me: Your Grandmother’s Favourite Photographer. (That’s actually on my business cards, lol.)
I’ve achieved a few accolades (or I guess it’s just more so things that I count as achievements) since going into photography full time in 2016. So of course I successfully opened my business. I changed my photography name from “Blue Skies Images” to “Cameron Hyman” (Bianca still doesn’t like that). I have an image that was featured in an article in the New York Times. I’ve shot images for the last three editions of Discover Magazine AND got the opportunity to have my images on the cover of those editions as well.
I’ve also had the opportunity to talk to some high school kids a few times about photography, which is something I’d like to do more of in the future. Oh! And I even did a short “workshop” on how to improve your smartphone photography. Lol.
This November will make it a full seven years that I’ve been doing photography and almost 5 years doing it full time. Sheesh.
That’s pretty much it for now. You can check the video out this week though.
Mans promise, ye.
