Through Cam's Lens: Sea of Gifts

Through Cam's Lens: Sea of Gifts

“It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas

Everywhere you go;

Take a look at the five and ten

It’s glistening once again

With candy canes and silver lanes aglow

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas”

I’ve had 16,000 siblings since I was in the womb. And about 4,000 were born after me. So, you know the types of Christmas that goes down at our house. (Of course I’m being hyperbolic guys!)

From the time I was old enough that it was my turn to buy gifts for other people, I tried to give my family the secret remedy. I tried to give them the secret sauce, but until this year, no one ever bothered with me. Like not even Irma and the first round of COVID made them listen. Pigs must be flying this year, lol.

Finally, my family decided to pull names from a hat. Whoye!

At any point in time, there’s about 12-15 people at the designated house on Christmas Day. This number does not include pop-ups. Can you imagine having to buy gifts for that many people? Plus goddaughters? Plus friends? Mais non! C’est pas possible!

Imagine having a $200 Christmas budget, that turns out to be about $13.33 per gift! LOL! But that’s what my family generally likes, more gifts. I’m like guys, listen. Linda, honey, listen! Would you rather get 15 gifts on a stretched budget or five gifts on a good budget? This is an easy choice for me (I’ll take 5 gifts for $200 Alex).

Think about it, 15 packs of socks, or five Levis jeans? (Not that socks are bad, I’m just throwing items out to show the value of the item.)

So, this year it finally happened.

We decided that everyone will get mom a gift, because there’d be no lunch in our house if mom doesn’t get all her gifts. Lol. And then we put everyone’s name in the bag twice and had everyone pull two names. So now I only have to buy three gifts for the house and I’m loving it. Yes, I’m loving the savings, but that’s not all.

I prefer putting real energy into my gift getting. If I’m on a stretched budget and I need to buy a bunch of gifts, I end up just getting something to say I got something. I would much rather have the flexibility and the budget to get someone something I know they would love. Something personal and relevant. But that’s just me. It has to make sense.

Besides mom, I have to get Zoya a gift and one of my brothers. What’s that new saying? Bing Bong? So, Bing Bong, I’m on the hunt for the perfect gifts. I already know what I’m getting Zoya; I’d tell you but y’all probably can’t hold a secret. My brother on the other hand, I’m not so sure what he’d like as yet.

For many reasons I feel like this Christmas is going to be a really good one, but on the same note, it’s also going to be one of the worst. Symmetry, I guess. Balance, I guess.

Anyway!

Yo! Love on your family. Love on your people! Have a Merry Mother Loving Christmas!

Don’t let no one steal your thunder! (Probably a grammatical error there.)
