“You can count on me
Like 1, 2, 3
I'll be there
And I know when I need it
I can count on you
Like 4, 3, 2
You'll be there
'Cause that's what friends are supposed to do”
Today is another perfect example of why I needed to write this piece. Well, not today, but actually yesterday. It’s another one of those weeks when I had absolutely no inspiration or motivation to write anything. Just full on bleh!
My exhibition was on Saturday night and it went really well. Throughout the event, I saw a lot of new faces that came out to show their support, but I also saw a plethora (I promise I’m going to stop using this word soon…lol.) of familiar faces. There were faces of persons who have supported me from jump, from the “get-go”. It made me feel really good to know that I will always have that core group of supporters that continues to grow over time.
The downfall of reading multiple books at the same time is that you can’t remember which one you got that specific piece of information from. A book I read last year mentioned how important having a core group of supporters/fans/followers is. It’s that group that constantly comes back to you for your service, spreads your good name like wildfire and clouts you when necessary.
In my opinion, as an artist, it’s so important to identify and have that core group of supporters. When you run into that wall and can’t find any inspiration and motivation to create or even continue in your art, it’s this group of persons that you can draw from to keep that “fire burning”.
I can’t count the number of times I have stood over Simpson Bay Bridge looking over at the light glistening on the water, contemplating if today would be the day we’d take that plunge. Well, not we, but my camera. There are so many times I have wanted to quit this shhh-thing. However, when I remember all these people who have more faith in me than I have in myself, the number of people my photography has made cry, the number of people who would throw me over the bridge with my camera (lol), I just had to keep pushing.
And just like this piece, there are people who look out for it every week, not to mention the boss lady who gave me this opportunity. On days like today, “urg”, yesterday, they give me the push needed to put finger to iPhone.
