One of the biggest attractions for the evening is the sons of St. Maarten, Red Eye Crew, who will be performing their many hits for fans. Born and raised in Saint Martin, the “Red Eye Crew” (R.E.C.) is a group made of four young artistes, ages 22 to 24 years old. The group was created in 1998 by three brothers – Skelet, Cardo and Jahny-P – and increased to four when they were joined by Dizzell-Bueno in 1999.
The group is so varied that to define its musical influences is practically impossible. With a mixture of dancehall, reggae flavoured by rap, hip hop and R&B, and a touch of pop/electronic and kompas, the group is often described as multitask with the different styles and variety of music it offers. Thanks to their talent, it is the sound of the islands which brings out their pieces.
Characterizing their style with English, Patois, Creole and French texts, Red Eye Crew tackles different subjects but always in positive ways with a creative concept to defend the project. The group already counts with its credibility with a significant number of scenes in Saint Martin, Guadeloupe, Martinique, France and Europe as a whole.
In 2008, R.E.C. released its first official video clip entitled “Fly”. The song immediately became a hit in Saint Martin, Guadeloupe, Martinique and France. The video clip was used as a tourist-attraction commercial, inviting people to Sint Maarten/Saint Martin in an on Air France and was also nominated by YouTube as the best video clip for that week in which Fly was released. While others used the Fly video clip as a tourist attraction, all of the McDonalds in France aired the video clip in what they call “Virgin 17” landing the clip in the top 10 videos on Virgin 17.
Their work continued in 2009 when they created their hit song “Kalala” followed by the video clip. The song became the official theme song for the Playboy party in France, and the #1 Soca song in Europe. Not only did the song Kalala and video clip become a hit, it also became a slang used by kids, teens and adults, creating words such as Kalarific, Kalafari and Kalamity. From 2009 up to today, the Kala song, video clip, dance, and slangs are still being used as if it were just yesterday the Kalala song was released.
After having both radio- and TV-interviews locally and abroad, R.E.C.’s fan base began to grow larger, putting the island on the map. Demand for their performance was highly recommended by their fans, which brought the group to France in 2010 for Bordeaux annual Carnival, pulling crowds from all over Europe. Foute Bordel was Bordeaux’s 2010 theme Carnival song done by R.E.C. With 30,000 plus pedestrians dancing through the streets, it was one of R.E.C’s greatest moment.
The group’s ultimate task is to make great music. Every day is another hit. Red Eye Crew: “Our goal is to divert. One does not want people to recall their problems, so to listen to our music is like leaving to go to another world; it’s therapy.”
Your line up for the show: Marzville, Voice, Mighty & Subance, Freezy, Ricky T, Rupee, Triple K, Edday, Asa Banton, Red Eye Crew, International Stephen, Barrie Hype, King Rumer, King Kembe, King James, King Vers, Kenyo Baly and Dj Blaze will be featured.
