Trimborn and Bootman to hold one-night exhibition May 31

NoCo Art Studio in Terres Basses in the Lowlands, French Saint Martin, opens its doors for a one-evening exhibition entitled “Reflecting on the Reality of Culture and Nature”, featuring Artist Corinna Trimborn and international artist and illustrator Colin Bootman, on Friday, May 31, from 6:00 until 9:00pm.

The two artists find crossing of paths, ideas and influences of the Caribbean nature and culture, which will be represented in their new artwork. The show will be an exclusive experience for the visitor by adding a visual video-show in the sculpture garden that is surrounding the exhibition space.

Paintings by Trimborn will capture the structure of Caribbean nature, while combining abstract with realism to leave room for imagination in the viewer’s eye. Germany-born, St. Martin resident Trimborn, who completed studies with honours in Art and Design, founded the “Lupa” Art Association and produced performance art in several European museums.

After her experience as a performance artist, she continued to study oil painting, developing a broad range of art styles; such as expressionism, abstract, figurative and surrealism. Besides her development in painting, she has also worked for many years as a production designer for the German television. Corinna and her sister fellow artist Norma Trimborn founded NoCo Art studio in 2001 and since then have made St. Maarten/St. Martin their home.

Bootman is a National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) award-winning artist and illustrator, with origins and inspiration from the rich culture of Trinidad and Tobago. Bootman’s early training in fine art was in New York, where he completed La Guardia High School of the Arts and at a college level training at the School of Visual Arts. He studied photography, writing and illustration.

Bootman writes and illustrates children’s books, the first of which was published in 1994, with more than 30 books published in the United States. Bootman received many awards for his work as an illustrator of children’s books. His paintings have been exhibited throughout the Caribbean in galleries and museums in the United States. The paintings that will be exposed represent a reflection on many cultural aspects of life on the Caribbean islands.

The studio is located at 39 Falaise des Oiseaux (this is the road to Plum Bay Beach). When driving from the French side from Cupecoy, continue to go straight, do not turn left for La Samana. Go left only where you see “Terres Basses” written on the wall, on your left-hand side, there you go through the manned security gate. It's then straight on to the fifth gate on the left! An open gate and a sign “Art Show Open” will welcome you. Please park outside along the street.

Make Ascension Day a Family Fun Fest for a good cause!

Get ready to chill, because on Thursday, May 30, both sides of our island will enjoy a public holiday together. If you feel like relaxing at the beach and eating delicious food without having to cook or do dishes, you should definitely join the “Be the Change” fundraiser at Buccaneer Beach Bar.

Everybody is invited to participate in the flea market event. Either enjoy shopping at bargain prices or use the opportunity to sell what you no longer have space for in your garage or closet. The kids are especially encouraged to participate and make this an event for the whole family to enjoy!

Buccaneer Beach Bar will pamper you with drink specials, a bonfire at the beach and FREE beach chairs and umbrellas when you purchase from their finger-licking-good grill menu. SeaFun Watersports will be on the premises to offer a bunch of activities like tubing, fly-board, jet-pack and jet-ski rentals.

If you would like to join the fundraiser as a vendor, simply start gathering your past treasures and bring a table, blanket or shelf to display your goods. All profits are yours to keep; you only donate $10/m for the space you use. All vendors are to be at Buccaneer Beach Bar at 9:00am to have a space assigned. The flea market will run from 10:00am to 5:00pm, but you are welcome to stay as long as you like.

Your kids will have a blast with their friends while practicing their math and business skills. You can spend quality time with your loved ones in a relaxed atmosphere and at the end of the day, you might take more money home than you brought. Doing a good thing has never been more fun; don’t you agree?! So what are you waiting for? Tell your neighbours, tell your friends and see you there!

Call Bianca at 1 721 580-1472 if you have any questions about the flea market.
