Animal Defenders SXM Volunteers of the Year 2023

Animal Defenders SXM Volunteers of the Year 2023

~ By ADS ~

We wish to announce our three volunteers of the year 2023. Normally, it is one person each year, but this year was an exceptionally busy year with many emergencies, extra reports of abuse and neglect, and a lot of surrenders. It was also a year of fun events.

First of all, we wish to commend Stefy from “Stefy’s Pet-sitting” for always being there for the animals and us whenever we would call for help. Thank you, Stefy; all pets love you and so do we.

Then we also wish to thank “SXM Lost & Found Pets”. It is amazing how many dogs get lost here on our island, but most of them find their way back home via this fantastic page, it truly works both ways – for found and lost pets. They will get home 99% of the cases. Hopefully, it is not needed, but always be prepared and have a picture of your pet(s) at hand and – if for whatever reason a dog gets lost – contact this fb page and just ask for help. Chipping a pet is also very helpful.

Not forgetting to thank the many foster homes and the adoption families. We hope to find open homes and hearts again in 2024, especially for Apollo and Molly, but for many more.

It was a productive, fun and positive year to collaborate with SXM Paws and Animal Welfare. Wow! We moved mountains together – respect for our sister foundations. Each foundation has its specialties and we’ll surely stay in contact; all for the love of animals. Then, of course, the vets as always did a wonderful job; we wish to thank them for their patience with us and for the discounts we got.

But most of all, thanks to the volunteers for being there – for feeding, for the emergencies and for all the love you gave to the animals every week or every day. This year, some volunteers left and some new volunteers joined our fleet. All ADS volunteers love animals and are devoted to them. It is heart-warming how they all form bonds with the animals and us.

This year, we have chosen three “Volunteers of the Year 2023” because it is impossible to pick out just one from the team of 36 lovely volunteers. Actually, all volunteers are heroes, the work they do cannot be expressed in value, it comes straight from the heart and that is priceless.

The three “Volunteers of the Year 2023” are Kenny, Tamara and Alex.

Thanks to all volunteers for being an inspiration and for helping the animals. It is an incredible privilege to be part of this compassionate team.

Wishing you all lots of love and peace for 2024, thanks from the ANIMALS!
