Discover Your Purpose and Get in the Ring

~ A free motivational event by TPI ~

Are you ready to Get in the Ring? Don’t miss out on the free motivational event happening this Wednesday, June 19, at 6:30pm at Belair Community Centre by Training Professionals International Firm (TPI) and sponsored by N.V. GEBE. This session will focus on your personal development, and give you a push to focus on your purpose and excel in your individual goals.

The evening will be hosted by Dr. Natasha Gittens, President and Chief Executive Officer of TPI and its affiliate company Customer Service Mobile Academy (CSMA).

The Weekender recently caught up with Dr. Gittens as she prepared for the event. Earlier this month, Dr. Gittens hosted a well-received Customer Service and Professional Development Week in St. Eustatius, delving into topics such as Managing Emotions under Pressure, Conflict Resolution, and Attitudes for Service. It was the first major conference of its kind on the island, drawing more than 160 participants.

The same conference was initiated in St. Maarten last year, with the second annual edition being scheduled for late October. Dr. Gittens is making leeway and expanding her businesses, but also in sharing knowledge and giving back – throughout the islands.

Dr. Gittens, why did you decide to host this free event?

Because TPI and CSMA believe that if we do business in the Caribbean, we should also give back. This free event is for everyone, including those who do not have access to training opportunities on a regular basis. It’s not only for those with white collar jobs, or those who work for larger companies.

I want to also recognise the Managing Board of N.V. GEBE who shares my philosophy that organisations have a humanitarian commitment to the people within their community. I applaud them for supporting the event and assisting us with empowering diverse members of our beautiful community in non-traditional formats.

Who do you hope to reach? Who will get the most out of it?

There’s no specific target market in this scenario, it will be beneficial for anyone who attends; anyone that could benefit from some direction and wants to make a conscious decision to get to the next level.

Looking at the programme, it sounds like you’ll be helping audience members get clear and focused about their goals. Is that a fair statement?

Yes, that’s the main theme. I don’t expect to touch everyone in the same way, though. It depends on where they are in their life. For example, some people may already be familiar with, say, three topics that I’ll speak on, while others will not have considered any as yet. Some will need a little push in a certain direction, and we’ll have people working at different speeds.

I will be sharing personal techniques and philosophies that I use to be successful in my own life. And I’ll be clear: I’m still a work in progress. I want to share my journey, and this session is really about sharing and passing on knowledge.

One term that stands out to me is “self-suffering”. Can you elaborate on that?

Self-suffering can be inflicted by anyone… we’ll talk about accepting hard facts, and how you can control your emotional behaviour. We can suffer as long as we want to suffer, but we can also make a conscious choice not to self-suffer.

“Deletable” also caught my attention. Will you be encouraging the audience to be more intentional about the company they keep?

Absolutely. And it’s not just the company someone keeps, but it can be a job, an environment you find yourself in, or a relationship. Anything not helping you to pursue your passion to become elevated is “deletable”. It’s not a choice, but mandatory if you want to improve your self-worth.

The “Get in the Ring” motivational presentation will lead the audience through 13 rounds, covering pertinent topics that will enable you to “fight your way to the top”. The skills and philosophies can be applied to your personal or professional life.
