The Sint Maarten Yacht Club (SMYC) invites all Dutch- and French-side schools to participate in the 5th Annual Domino’s Interschool Dinghy Sailing Championship, sponsored by Domino’s Pizza, to be held on Sunday, May 15. Thanks to the sponsorship of Domino’s, there is no entry fee or cost involved.
SMYC will be hosting the event, which had originally been slated for January 15. The team representing a school can have any number of students who are able to sail. Every student will have an equal opportunity to help sail their school to victory! This includes all students ages 7 to 18 who currently know how to sail and who have some racing experience.
Racing will be divided into four classes
* Optimist Class: ages 7-15 (1 person)
* Laser: ages 12-18 (1 person)
* RS Zest: ages 7-15 (1-2 persons)
* RS Quest Class: ages 12-18 (2 persons)
Boys and girls will compete against each other. Individual trophies will be awarded to first-, second- and third-place in each class. Overall team trophies will be awarded to the top three schools based on points scored, and an overall winner will get their team’s name on Domino’s Perpetual Trophy.
SMYC’s aim is to promote the sport of sailing within the schools on the island and to recognise those students who compete in this exciting sport. Through promotion of this 5th annual interschool sailing event, SMYC hopes to encourage and to introduce sailing to many young students on the island.
