Donations for New Start for Children

The home of Sally and Eddie Benjamin in Mary’s Fancy has been one of acceptance and love for more than 45 years. Known as the “New Start for Children”, the large house on the hill currently houses 22 children, ages two to 17. These are children who need a happy and safe environment to call home due to harsh family circumstances, and they have found such a home at the Benjamins’ house.

This week, New Start received four big boxes of donations from dedicated island visitors Shelly Doyle, Brenda Kassie, Jill Stewart and their friends back in Canada. Each child received a personalized gift bag and the home got much needed art and school supplies for the kids to share. Top of the donation list were six desktop computers and two laptops. “These will be very helpful for the children to do their schoolwork,” said Sally. The home also receives support from the Rotary Club and K1 Britannia as well as friends of the Benjamins and family members.

With the many challenges faced since Irma, this has been a good path for the New Start for Children foundation. They recently got their roof repaired after the hurricane and are working on creating a playground area for the little ones to have some fun outdoor time. Those wishing to contribute can reach out to K1 Britannia SXM via their facebook page.
