Forum 3: Bridging sectors for St. Maarten’s future

By Foresee Foundation

Forum 3 co-Creating Social Impact, the latest in the series of events organized by NPOwer, the Think to Do Institute and the Government of St. Maarten stand as a testament to the ongoing effort to strengthen collaboration between St. Maarten’s non-profit organizations (NPOs) and the private and public sectors. This third instalment of the forum series planned for October 11-15 will focus on fostering meaningful connections with private sector decision-makers and senior management, aiming to create pathways for sustained community development.

The primary objective of Forum 3 is to build social cohesion and facilitate the future development of a Social Progress Index (SPI) and to bridge the gap between non-profit and private and public sector entities, encouraging the development of strategic partnerships that benefit both the business community and society at large. NPOs play an essential role in addressing critical social issues, from health and education to environmental conservation and social welfare. However, to amplify their impact, stronger collaboration with the private sector is essential, creating opportunities for innovative solutions and pooling resources for greater societal impact.

Dr. Bonnie Benesh, a renowned expert in non-profit and organizational development, will serve as the keynote speaker for the forum. Dr. Benesh brings decades of experience in facilitating cross-sector collaboration, and her insights are expected to spark ideas on how St. Maarten’s businesses can align their corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives with the needs of the community. Her presence is sure to inspire fresh perspectives on how private enterprises can directly contribute to a sustainable future.

The forum will also include a private sector reception and info session, providing an informal setting for participants to engage in deeper discussions about how businesses can support the work of local non-profits. Attendees will gain an understanding of how partnerships with NPOs can boost brand reputation, foster employee engagement, and contribute to the long-term resilience of St. Maarten.

NPOwer’s vision is that this forum series will help facilitate an SPI for St. Maarten, building social cohesion, redefining the relationship between sectors, and moving away from a donor-beneficiary dynamic toward one of collaboration and shared value creation. The forum is expected to attract a wide range of participants, from established corporations to small businesses, offering them the chance to engage directly with non-profits that are driving change on the ground.

By the end of the event, it is hoped that private sector leaders will walk away with a clearer understanding of the immense value that NPOs bring to the table and the role they can play in fostering long-term growth for both businesses and communities. Forum 3 is an opportunity for St. Maarten to strengthen its social structure through collaboration. With the challenges of today, partnerships between the private and non-profit sectors are crucial to securing a brighter, more resilient future for the island.
