Ishshah Carty of Divi Little Bay selected for Michelin Star Internship

St. Maarten native Ishshah Carty will learn new cooking skills during a two-week internship at All Spice – a Michelin Star Restaurant in San Francisco, California.

Divi Little Bay Beach Resort, St. Maarten, is pleased to announce that Carty, the resort’s Kitchen Supervisor, has been selected for the prestigious internship.

During the internship, starting the first week of September, Carty will advance her cooking skills and expand her culinary knowledge by learning new plating ideas and flavour profiles with the talented husband and wife team, Sachin Chopra and Shoshana Wolff, owners of All Spice.

“Basically, I want to be like a sponge and soak up all of the information that I can,” Carty said. “Hopefully, this internship will open up more doors for me in the culinary world and provide me with more opportunities to learn and to push myself out of my comfort zone.”

Carty has a background in the food industry, having studied culinary arts and hospitality management in college. After college, she worked at Universal Studios Orlando Resort for three years, quickly moving up the ranks and supervising her own kitchen.

“During that time, I had the opportunity to cook for many different celebrities, including Donald Trump, Tim Duncan, Vivica A. Fox, and Sinbad, among others,” said Carty. “In 2016, I decided to return home and this year I started working at Divi Little Bay Beach Resort. I am very much enjoying my experience here.”
