Summer fun, SXM style at Pasture Piece

Summer fun, SXM style at Pasture Piece

School’s out, it’s time to relax, but many of us won’t be travelling this year. Time to consider local options for summer fun – and not just the beach! Pasture Piece – a quaint, historical St. Maarten monument which now houses a bed & breakfast and event venue – will be hosting fun summer activities for the whole family every Sunday of July.

With lots of space to play or simply take in the scenery, there is something for everyone to enjoy – from historical tours and storytelling, to creative workshops on making candles and Johnny cakes, and stands selling local crafts.

The traditional wooden house propped up by stone wall, dating back to at least 1902, has been well preserved and is dotted with artefacts, antiques, and family mementos. Pasture Piece makes for the perfect atmosphere for guests to enjoy their activities, learn about local culture, and simply relax for a nice day out.

Entry “Summers in July” at Pasture Piece is free, as are the tours and storytelling. Workshops are priced separately. Sign up in advance to secure your spot.

Take part in something artistic, and something you don’t do every day. Candle making classes by “Scentsational Candles” will be held on July 4 and 18, from 2:00 to 6:00pm. US $60 covers class fees, and three different sized candles that participants will take home as souvenirs of the creative sessions. Call +1 721 581-5210 to register.

Johnny cake workshops will be held by The Johnny Caker, with three different themes on July 4, 11 and 18, at 2:00pm and 4:00pm each day. The first workshop will be dedicated to Daddies and Daughters, the second to Ol’ Time Tradition, and the third to Taste the Flavours where you’ll learn to make unique Johnny cakes. Workshops are US $50 per person, except for Daddies and Daughters which is $70 per couple, and $20 for extra participants in the same group. Prices also include refreshments, swag bag with recipes, and other goodies. Call or WhatsApp +1 721 554-2159 to register.

Guests are asked to wear a mask and respect social distancing while enjoying their day.

Join in on the family fun, any Sunday of July from 2:00 to 7:00pm at Pasture Piece. Like the surroundings? Keep the property in mind for your next staycation, family event, or meeting.
