SXM DOET is celebrating its 5th anniversary!

~ Celebrate with us by signing up as a volunteer ~

Since its first edition in 2015, SXM DOET has grown exponentially. Last year, more than 1,800 volunteers rolled up their sleeves to make a difference in the community! This year is SXM DOET’s 5th anniversary. Are you onboard?

“The response to SXM DOET has been amazing. Last year, with the help of our many collaborating organizations, volunteers and business partners, we completed 108 community-orientated projects within the two SXM DOET days.

“This year, we have approximately 115 registered projects, and some exciting new partners. Our 5th anniversary is going to be great!” says SXM DOET Project Management Team: Melanie Choisy, Fleur Hermanides and Laura Bijnsdorp.

The goal of SXM DOET is to ensure that local organizations successfully execute projects that benefit themselves and, in turn, the community, through volunteerism.

Individuals, businesses, schools, social organizations, sporting and church groups, friends and families have joined SXM DOET in the past years to make a positive change on Sint Maarten.

SXM DOET is an initiative initiated and funded by the Oranje Fonds in the Netherlands with NLdoet, which started in the Netherlands more than15 years ago, and later expanded to Curaçao, Aruba, Bonaire, Statia, St. Maarten and Saba. Locally, SXM DOET is managed and executed by Be the Change Foundation.

For the 5th Anniversary of SXM DOET, on March 15 and 16, volunteers can once again choose from a large number of projects. This year, there are approximately 115 projects to choose from, and persons of all ages are asked to sign up to volunteer!

SXM DOET has made the signing-up process easy. Just go to www.sxmdoet.com, choose a project of your liking and sign up by filling in a contact information form.

Some projects for 2019 include:

* Schools, day cares and afterschool programmes (catering to youth of all ages) that are in need of a new layer of paint, fencing, benches, gardening and more.

* Playgrounds and sports fields in various communities that could use your help for much-needed upgrades and renovations.

* Environmental projects that aim to make recycling bins, conduct clean-ups, clear trails and collect waste-material for upcycling purposes.

* Persons who prefer the social-aspect of volunteering can help out with food and clothing-drives, HIV-testing and health awareness sessions, as well as help during fun outings with groups such as elderly, foster kids and persons with disabilities.

* …and many more. There is something for everyone!

SXM DOET Project Management Team: “Every year there are more projects, and thus more choices for volunteers to help out with. SXM DOET provides a great opportunity to help out your community for a few hours, get to know great NGOs in a fun and beneficial way.

“The organisation you are helping out will make sure its volunteers are taken care of with drinks, snacks and above all, a lot of gratitude! Karma points are guaranteed. And who knows, you might make a few new friends and acquire a new skill.”
