Teen Times recognizes the contributions of Lavisha Dadlani

As an organization that prides itself on empowering teenagers, Teen Times recognizes Lavisha Dadlani for her dedication, innovativeness and creative story ideas. Teen Times is an organization in the Caribbean dedicated to being a platform for and by young people through the power of writing as a supplement of St. Maarten’s largest daily newspaper, The Daily Herald.

What has Lavisha done for Teen Times?

Lavisha Dadlani has done an incredible amount for Teen Times. During her three years as the Editor in Chief, she chaired the meetings and worked diligently to carefully edit the articles for our monthly issues. She always brought forth interesting, enlightening, and exciting new article ideas to the table, and continuously inspired us to show up as representatives of the youth.

What are some activities that Lavisha contributed to during her time at Teen Times?

In addition to all of the amazing work that she has done for Teen Times, Lavisha has also participated in a variety of meaningful activities and community service events, including many SXM Doet activities, such as painting, renovating playgrounds, and cleaning. She attended a Rotary meeting to represent Teen Times, and she helped to organize the annual Teen Times Prom 2023. She played a significant role in shining a light on the Period Poverty Project on St. Maarten through articles and social media awareness, as well as donations of sanitary products to schools in need. Additionally, she represented the Period Poverty Project during a meeting with the members of the Dutch Royal Family in February.

The impact of this initiative is insurmountable as it has been crucial in destigmatizing the issue of period poverty, as well as normalizing conversations surrounding menstruation and hygiene among the younger generation. During Christmas, she collaborated to help organize a Toy Drive for the children and families that are less fortunate in the community, bringing smiles and joy to young children. Although Lavisha aided in bringing more awareness of international news to the Teen Times team and our audience, she also always tried to incorporate local perspectives in important discussions.

What are Lavisha’s future plans and how do they connect with her volunteering experiences?

Lavisha is currently studying in the Netherlands pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Hospitality and International Business, and she plans to continue being involved in volunteering in the Netherlands. She will try to keep in touch with us and provide us guidance and ideas when necessary, and she will also continue participating in volunteer events, getting to know people and creating new friends along the way.

Highlight some activities Lavisha has done to impact our society.

Over the past five years, Lavisha has made a significant impact on the volunteer community through her involvement in the Interact Club. She has participated in numerous community events, including beach clean-ups, fundraisers for various charities, SXM Doet events, and annual club events. Additionally, she has volunteered and taken part in Rotary events through her experience in Interact and Teen Times.

Lavisha’s continuous hard work and dedication to organizing and participating in Teen Times events, such as the Prom, Christmas Toy Drive, and Period Poverty Project, have been inspiring and greatly appreciated. Working with Lavisha over the past year has been an absolute honour, and it has been amazing to see the impact of her work on the volunteer space and the community.
