11 day-care centres permitted to reopen

PHILIPSBURG--Eleven day-care centres operating in the country have been “permitted” by the Inspectorate of Public Health, Social Development and Labour VSA to resume their operations.

According to a press release issued over the weekend, all day care centres in the country suffered damage during the passage of Hurricane Irma on September 6. The damage was more extensive at some than at others and they were left without power and potable water.

“Day Centres must be able to operate in a safe and healthy manner,” the release said.

An inspection team consisting of VSA Ministry, Ministry of Education, Culture, Youth and Sport (ECYS) and Ministry of Public Housing, Environment, Spatial Development and Infrastructure VROMI inspectors conducted inspections on health, safety, infrastructural and educational aspects at day care centres. The release said hazards related to these areas should not be present at the centres.

Based on the inspections, 11 day care centres were permitted to resume services: Alexander's Early Stimulation and Development Centre at Betty's Estate #8; Busy Body at Fr. P.A. Barbanson #8 in Simpson Bay; Brighter Child at Zagersgut Lane #4 in Cul de Sac; Care Bears at  Tiger Road #10 in Cay Hill; Children's World at Hibiscus Road #1 in Saunders; Ebenezer Learning Centre at Ebenezer Road #92 in Ebenezer; Little Explorers at Wesley Street #7 in Cole Bay; Lucia's Baby Centre Foundation at Defiance Road #6 in Defiance; Rainbow Bright at L.B. Scott Road #168 in South Reward; Tiny Tots at Maho Tree Drive in Orange Grove; and Lucia's Learning Centre at Defiance Road #3 in Defiance.

“As soon as other day care centres are able to resume services this will be announced,” it was stated in the release.
