MARIGOT--Regional health agency ARS reported fourteen new COVID-19 cases for the period April 12-18 (week fifteen) in contrast to nine cases in the previous week.
The accumulated number of cases confirmed by polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test since the beginning of the pandemic is 1,720. Two new COVID-19 cases have been recorded for week 16 (in progress) identified from 316 tests.
ARS indicated it did not have the latest numbers for variants of the virus, but was sure that the UK variant is currently the only one on the French side of St. Maarten/St. Martin.
Louis-Constant Fleming Hospital was treating one patient for the virus as of April 20. There were no evacuations to Guadeloupe in week 15. ARS regretted one death, an 83-year-old patient who passed away from COVID-19 on April 12, but did not mention which hospital the patient was in.
The number of supplementary PCR or rapid antigen tests carried out in St. Martin in week 15 was 1,203 for a total of 28,209 tests registered.
St. Barths recorded 22 new COVID-19 cases in week 15 compared to 29 in week 14, bringing its accumulated to total to 958. Three new cases were identified in week 16 (in progress) from 207 tests.
Some 766 supplementary tests were carried out in St. Barths in week 15 for a total of 24,350 tests registered.
Some 2,803 persons have received their first vaccination against COVID-19 since January 13, and 1,196 have received their second booster injection for a total of 3,999 vaccinations.
