PHILIPSBURG--Businesses along Front Street and Back Street can now engage in recycling of cardboard. The complimentary cardboard pickup will be executed by St. Maarten Recycling six days a week.
The Ministry of Environment and Infrastructure VROMI in collaboration with St. Maarten Recycling has started the cardboard collection in initiative as part of a bigger vision to introduce a recycling system for businesses and residents and to tackling the garbage situation on the two main streets.
All businesses along the two main streets only are urged by the Ministry and collection company to follow the outlined pickup procedures to have their daily cardboard material collected free of charge.
Cardboard pickups will be Monday to Saturday, twice daily - 8:30am and 6:00pm. All cardboard material must be placed on the business curbside approximately one hour before pickup times.
Cardboard is not allowed on the curbside after 8:30am and 6:00pm or on Sundays. All cardboard must be folded flat and tied for a swift and easy pickup as well as to prevent wind scattering.
Cardboard placed on the curbsides may not include any foam, packaging or other material other than solely the cardboard component. Not adhering to the stipulated manner of cardboard disposal will result in the material not being picked up.
St. Maarten Recycling will resume collecting cardboard from the public as of the first week of April. A collection bin will be placed in a designated area; more details will be released soon.
