Carnival season ends on high note

CARNIVAL VILLAGE--The 2017 Carnival season came to an end on Wednesday evening with the St. Maarten Carnival Development Foundation (SCDF) Last Lap Jump-Up that started in Cay Hill and ended at Carnival Village.

SCDF President Alston Lourens introduced TelEm Group CEO Kendall Dupersoy who announced winners of the TelEm I Am Carnival Promotion.

Vibert Richards won a 2017 Hyundai i20, Hyundai L575 Smart Phone, Hyundai Pulse Watch and 6 months of free gas from Texaco. Cuilian Feng won US $50 monthly top-up for one year, Rolex Cheng won 12MB Internet for one year, Kyra Richinsin won an iPhone 7 Plus, Jeanine Davoren won a Samsung 7 Edge, Edmund Horsford won a 55-inch Smart TV and Xavier Nicholas won a Go Pro Hero camera.

King Momo was burned and laid to rest as customary. Thousands attended the ending of Carnival in the Village and took their last opportunity to purchase their favourite snacks from booth-holders.

SCDF named XP Band the 2017 Band of the Year. XP band was also picked by a panel of judges as the Band Clash 2017 champion earlier in April.page6e291page6f291

Lourens thanked sponsors for supporting this year's Carnival and announced the date for next year’s season: April 12 to May 3, 2018.
