Coast Guard caught drugs

A significant haul.

WILLEMSTAD--At the direction of the Rescue & Coordination Center (RCC) a “go-fast” boat with drugs on board was intercepted near Curaçao by a Metal Shark of the Dutch Caribbean Coast Guard Sunday evening around 6:00pm.

The suspect vessel about 30 kilometres off the coast tried to escape as crew threw several packages into the sea. Warning shots were fired but after a hot pursuit officers had to target the engine to disable the fleeing go-fast.

The Coast Guard personnel fished all the packages out of the water and detained the five persons on board. They were brought ashore to the support centre at naval base Parera.

Both the suspects and packages, presumably narcotics, were handed over to police for further investigation.
