MARIGOT--Conservatoire du Littoral is appealing to the public not to add more rubbish to the mounds of debris and bulky items that have accumulated on the road to Le Galion that is making the area look like an open dump.
Conservatoire first collected all the debris that was scattered over the whole area and brought it to the side of the road for it to be picked up by trucks and removed. Most of the debris came from the Collectivité’s “carbets” restaurants on Orient Beach and from Club Orient Resort.
However, Chargée de Mission for Conservatoire du Littoral Anne-Marie Bouillé explained for various reasons the cleaning and clearing up work was two months late and some members of the public have used the opportunity to add more rubbish.
“We had to launch a bid for the cleaning contract. Calls for tender are ongoing and will be opened before the end of June,” she said. “The cleaning and clear-up work should be completed before the end of August. The Conservatoire has also recruited a person who will be dedicated exclusively to cleaning up its sites from mid-June. With a little patience, and especially with a more responsible awareness of the environment from the public, the very beautiful site of Le Galion should soon find all its natural beauty again.”
