Curaçao feast of patron saint

Curaçao feast of patron saint

Procession.

WILLEMSTAD--Friday was Day of Santa Ana, the mother of the Virgin Mary and patron saint of Curaçao. Several activities took place during the morning in and around the Basilica of Santa Ana.

On this day the island also commemorates the fact that on July 26, 1499, the Spanish, led by Alonso de Ojeda, first arrived on the island. The harbour “Sint Annabaai” is named after Saint Anne.

The patron saint feast started with a rosary prayer on Plaza Brion. After this, a procession went through the streets of Otrobanda to the Basilica of Santa Ana, where a solemn Mass was held.
