PHILIPSBURG--Young dancer Jeremiah David’s commitment to his art form has yielded results. He has earned a partial scholarship to the New York-based Broadway Dance Center’s Junior Training Program.
There is a hurdle dancer of some dozen years cannot yet leap over – corralling all the funding needed to pay his part of the scholarship. And the clock is ticking on his attendance. David needs to be in New York before June 25 when classes starts. The training ends on August 3.
“Unfortunately, this process is one that is very time consuming with little reward being that we have only risen a little over US $1,000,” David who is honing his skills at the National Institute of Arts in John Larmonie Centre said. His budget for the trip is $8,704.50.
The budgeted amount covers the application fee, tuition fees, housing, air travel, meals, insurance, ground transportation, dance attire and accessories and leisure activities.
“This is a momentous opportunity for me both professionally and artistically. Sadly, I will be unable to indulge in this amazing opportunity without your assistance. Attending this programme would be absolutely life changing, but sadly this trip is one that is very costly,” said the fifth form student at the Charlotte Brookson Academy of the Performance Arts in his letter to potential sponsors.
David said he has sent out more than 14 letters to businesses since the start of May and has not received any response.
The dancer had not sat idly by since receiving the partial scholarship. He, together with his mother started acquiring funds by selling food and homemade desserts in school and at his mother’s job.
