CAY HILL--Son of the soil Dr. Damien Jonas Wilson, a former St. Maarten Academy (academic) student, has joined the team of medical professionals at St. Maarten Medical Center (SMMC) as of March 8.

Wilson, a general medical doctor and biomolecular engineer, will serve as the new “House Officer” at SMMC.  SMMC said in a press release over the weekend that Wilson “comes to SMMC filled with enthusiasm to utilise his knowledge for serving our patient community with quality care close to home.”

Wilson is the first House Officer at SMMC. As House Officer, Wilson will work, examine, and diagnose, as well as administer general medical treatment in the prevention and control of diseases. In his new capacity, Wilson works in close collaboration with SMMC’s medical specialists to provide medical care to patients in the Medical/Surgical ward.

“The position is very wide-ranging in scope, and as such is not limited to one medical discipline, but allows versatility to work and continue learning from all medical disciplines. I believe that this is a position that will further enhance the quality of care at SMMC,” Wilson said in the release.

“I always try to do my best at anything that I have to do in my life, and taking on this function at SMMC will be no exception. I will strive to be a valuable asset to the team of dynamic healthcare professionals at SMMC. Being the first at anything means you set the standard for those who will come after you. While that in itself is a very tall order, I welcome it with open arms and an open mind.”

Wilson is a dual professional – a general practitioner (medical doctor), having completed training in General Medicine and Surgery at University of Zagreb Faculty of Medicine in the Republic of Croatia, and a Biomolecular Engineer from Utrecht University of Applied Sciences in the Netherlands.

SMMC Medical Director Dr. Felix Holiday: “Another milestone in the vision to enhance quality care while expanding the variety of specialties has been achieved. It also gives great pleasure to be able to contribute to young local professionals to further build their career through SMMC.”

SMMC said it welcomes Wilson to its team of doctors and nurses and looks forward to a good working relationship together, serving our patient community with quality care close to home.
