ST. EUSTATIUS--A week celebrating the men and women of the Caribbean Netherlands Fire Department BKCN kicked off on Wednesday.

The firefighters took to the streets in fire trucks blaring the sirens to signal the start of their week of activities.

On Thursday, May 20, the firefighters will be painting the tombs of fallen firefighters. One tomb is located at the Roman Catholic cemetery and two tombs are located at the Salem cemetery.

Persons in the community who would like the tombs of their loved ones painted are advised to bring along the paint needed and the firemen will assist them with this task.

On Friday, May 21, the Fire Department will be hosting the pupils from three primary schools at the fire station located in Concordia. Other activities are also planned to celebrate the firefighters.
