Five primary schools competing in Prince and Princess Pageant

ANGUILLA--There are five schools taking part in the Prince and Princess Pageant – Orelia Kelly, Adrian T. Hazell, Vivian Vanterpool, Valley and Morris Vanterpool Primary Schools. The event is scheduled for Friday, August 3, with the theme “I am a Promise.”

The contestants will introduce themselves in a speech focussed on the theme and lasting up to three minutes. There will be a talent segment for up to five minutes and an appearance in evening wear that has strict rules for the girls including no makeup, no hair extensions, no strapless dresses, and has to be a dress appropriate for a primary school child. The dress code for the boys is formal evening wear.

Contestants from Orelia Kelly School are 11-year-old Norris Smart and 12-year-old Kaori Mockett. Norris likes basketball, football, running and dancing while Kaori’s hobbies are dancing, swimming and reading.

One contestant from the Adrian T. Hazell Primary School is 12-year-old Malachi Hughes, whose interests are sailing, swimming, reading and surfing the Internet. Accompanying Malachi is Carjenee Maccow-Niles who likes to surf the Internet, create music videos and dance.

Orlanno Adams and Tyjanique Sepersaud are the two contestants from the Vivien Vanterpool School. They are 12 and 10 years old and Orlanno likes art and trucks while Tyjanique is interested in reading and writing.

Two 11-year-olds are representing The Valley Primary School. They are Keante Brooks who likes sports and dancing, and Deronique Smith who enjoys dancing, reading and swimming.

From the Morris Vanterpool School are Marlik Fleming and Sapphire Laudat, both 11 years old. Marlik likes to swim, read and do science experiments and Sapphire likes singing and dancing.

The winning couple will each receive US $300, the first runners-up will get US $200 and the other competitors US $150. There will also be a Mr. and Miss Congeniality, Punctuality, Photogenic and Comical award, and trophies for each of the segments.
