PHILIPSBURG--The Foundation for Catholic Education St. Maarten SKOS held a two-day workshop for its teaching staff on October 3 and 4. Attending the workshop were Foundation Based Education (FBE) teaching staff, Early Childhood Stimulation staff and Afterschool Activities programme staff.
The teachers of Dutch-language Catholic primary schools Sister Regina, Sister Magda, Sister Marie Laurence and Sister Borgia met at Sister Magda Primary School for the workshop.
A presentation was given on mathematics by Delroy Pierre. A presentation was also given by Janneke Vonk on a micro-lesson concept called “Grej of the Day”. This is a project-based learning activity that stimulates critical thinking and exploration skills in children.
The teaching staff of English-language Catholic primary schools St. Dominic, St. Joseph and Sister Marie Laurence met for the workshop at St. Joseph Primary School. Some teachers also attended the I-Step Conference, which was held at St. Dominic High School.
“The workshop was geared towards improving and enhancing teaching in our Catholic schools. The Catholic School Board would like to thank all organisers and presenters, under leadership of J. Greene and R. Uiterloo, for a job well done,” said SKOS in a press release on Friday.
The Foundation also wished its teaching staff a happy World Teachers’ Day, which is today, Saturday. “The Foundation Catholic Education St. Maarten values the contribution of its teaching staff for the holistic development of all students.”
