MARIGOT--President Daniel Gibbs on Tuesday commented on the Collectivité and Water Authority project in Grand Case to rehabilitate the sewage and drinking water networks, which is temporarily suspended pending a new work schedule.
“We are currently installing the first sewage network on the main Boulevard and a new connection to the sewage system,” he said. “This means that we have finally been able to start the work that is absolutely essential for the inhabitants of the village, for all St. Martiners.
“As with any large-scale construction site, the nuisance factor is real, and even more so for this site where work proceeds in difficult conditions compared to other construction sites.
“Many have questioned the choice of schedule; why not at night? The cost has been put forward as an answer, but beyond the financial question, none of you would wish to suffer the noise pollution of such a construction site at night for several weeks.
“There are times when everyone is asked to show patience and tolerance. The infrastructure building sites is one such time. We have no choice but to carry them out before school starts again. We are in a period of reconstruction and construction, a fact that we must all accept. The sooner this work is completed, the sooner Grand Case will regain its former glory. We have chosen the least active period to launch these projects. It is now or never.”
