WILLEMSTAD--Over the last 15 months Curaçao-based InselAir operated the St. Maarten route with a 5-seat Fokker 50 turboprop plane. This was a consequence of the reorganisation and downsizing of the company, during which the F70 and MD 80 jets were phased out.
Consequently, there has not been a jet service between Curacao and St. Maarten for 15 months. The route was operated only with propeller aircraft, extending the travel time between the islands to 2.5 hours.
During this period InselAir received numerous requests from the market for reinstatement of a jet service because it shortens the travel time between the islands significantly to only 1.5 hours. That has now been done effective Thursday, June 28.
The addition of a Embraer E-190 leased from Conviasa is the first step towards the carrier’s renewed growth that has been planned for the coming year. It will also be used for the Suriname market and several other regional destinations which will be announced shortly.
