WILLEMSTAD--The Joint Court of Justice of Aruba, Curaçao and St. Maarten and Bonaire, St. Eustatius and Saba said on Monday that it has taken several precautionary measures to protect personnel and visitors from the coronavirus COVID-19. These measures will apply as of today, Tuesday, until Tuesday, March 31.
The Joint Court said only urgent hearings will be held during this period, which include judgements, criminal cases, summary proceedings, and provisional measures.
“Prosecutors will be informed of the progress of their case(s). Except for members of the press, no members of the public will be admitted to public hearings.
“Lawyers, visitors and the press who need to be present when dealing with an emergency will be admitted to the building provided they do not show any symptoms of the coronavirus, such as fever, cough and shortness of breath,” said the Court.
The Court requests that persons come to its front desk only for urgent matters.
“There will be a queue restriction at the counters and a restriction on the number of persons who can enter the waiting areas at the same time. Requests can be submitted by e-mail in the next two weeks. The registry fee can be paid later at the counter. All other matters can be handled by mail or telephone,” said the Court.

“The Court is monitoring the situation on a daily basis to take appropriate measures and will adjust them in the interest of the health of all employees, stakeholders and visitors,” concluded the Court.
