WILLEMSTAD--Due to developments surrounding the Covid-19 virus that continues to cause a lot of uncertainty, the King's Games will not continue this year in Curaçao. Although they were initially confident that this would pass quickly, the organization no longer considers it responsible and appropriate to hold the sporty “House of Orange” event.
Given that the organisation of King's Games lies primarily with each country, the eight in Curaçao was planned on Friday April 24. “And while most sports packages have already arrived and we did not want to deprive the children of a pleasant day, we had to stop the activities due to the current situation and the lockdown.”
“Of course, we find it very unfortunate, but public health is paramount. For all schools, sports organisations and volunteers who have already started preparing the games, many thanks for your efforts. We really appreciate that,” said coordinator Mavis Albertina.
This year, a record number of primary schools with a total of more than 18,000 pupils registered for the even to celebrate King Willem Alexander’s birthday on April 27. The next edition will now take place in April 2021.
