CUL DE SAC--Bread- and pastry-lovers now have a new spot to get their favourite treats with the opening of Lyn’s Dream Bakery and Deli at Alamanda Drive on L.B. Scott Road on Wednesday, August 1.
The bakery and deli shares the premises with Source of Inspirational Learning (SOIL).
Lyn’s Dream Bakery is owned and managed by daughter of the soil Jacintha Brice, who together with her mother Lynnette Anson-Leerdam, already has owned and managed Lyn’s Dream Bakery and Deli in St. Eustatius for many years. Brice named the bakery after her mother, Lynnette.
The bakery and deli was opened to cater to local demand for superior quality bread and pastries and to help develop entrepreneurial skills by employing local St. Maarteners men, Brice said. She told The Daily Herald she had a lot of clients in St. Maarten and wanted to open a branch here to cater to them and the entire St. Maarten community.
She said the products in the bakery will be made fresh and will remain authentic. Menu items will range from bread, local drinks, local and foreign sandwiches (cheese, tuna, saltfish, turkey, ham/cheese and egg) to a range of freshly-made burgers (hamburgers, chicken, cheese, egg, egg and cheese, veggie, salmon and fish), amongst other things. The establishment is currently working on its soup menu.
Brice said she adheres to the principles of social business – a business born out of a social need. “A social business uses regular conventional business methods, selling products and/or services as usual, but not to gain profit for personal use. The profits are not to be kept for selfish purposes of the owners, but will remain in the business to expand and improve this business,” she said.
Brice and SOIL owner Rhoda Arrindell envisage developing together projects aimed at the emancipation of the St. Maarten people.
The opening times of Lyn’s Dream Bakery and Deli are from 5:30am to 6:00pm Sunday to Friday.
