Meeting about status of schools, sports and arts continues today

PHILIPSBURG--The urgent plenary meeting of Parliament on the status of schools, sports and arts centres continues today, Monday, with Minister of Education, Culture, Youth and Sport Wycliffe Smith. The meeting, adjourned on September 14, resumes at 5:00pm in Parliament House.

The first agenda point is the status of the schools for the school year 2018-2019, particularly the shortage of teachers, preparedness for the 2018 hurricane season, the Safety and Emergency Management Committee and the Emergency Guidelines for schools, the School Bus Policy, and the Implementation Plan.

The second point is the state of sports and arts facilities and programmes in St. Maarten.

The sitting was requested by Members of Parliament Silveria Jacobs, William Marlin and Ardwell Irion.
