Minister Dekker to visit three Windward Islands

PHILIPSBURG--Minister for Legal Protection Sander Dekker will visit St. Maarten, St. Eustatius and Saba from Wednesday, April 10, until Saturday, April 13. During the minister’s visit various elements in the area of justice will be addressed.

  In St. Maarten, Minister Dekker and State Secretary of Home Affairs and Kingdom Relations Raymond Knops will visit four different detention locations that were hit by Hurricane Irma in 2017.

  They will also have a meeting with Prime Minister Leona Romeo-Marlin and Minister of Justice Cornelius de Weever about the detention facilities on the island, which include the Pointe Blanche prison, the Philipsburg police station, the police substation in Simpson Bay and Miss Lalie Youth Care and Rehabilitation Centre.

  After the visit to St. Maarten, Minister Dekker will travel to St. Eustatius where he will have various meetings about detention capacity, youth-prevention projects, the implementation of juvenile criminal law and the “security house” on the island, among other things.

  In Saba, Minister Dekker will attend an expert meeting on victims’ rights, organised by the Law Enforcement Council, among other activities.
