ANGUILLA--The first group of the Occupational Health and Safety Class at the University of the West Indies (UWI) Open Campus Anguilla will conclude the course by participating in the tenth staging of the All Hazard Risk Reduction and Safety Fair on Friday, June 22. The group consisting of fourteen students from the public and private sectors will use the opportunity to engage adults and children using audio-visual aids.
According to facilitator Shenique Clare, taking part in the Safety Fair is a fitting end to the delivery of this course, as it provides an opportunity for participants to spread the safety message about ambassadorship, safety and the law, and the overall importance of safety.
The 10-week professional development course was launched by the UWI Open Campus Anguilla in collaboration with the Anguilla Electricity Company ANGLEC and the Department of Disaster Management, in March 2018. It focused on raising awareness and implementing techniques to help build a culture of safety. The course also examined current and pending legislation and provided participants with the necessary tools to develop procedures to control risks to health and safety risks within their organisations.
The course participants will operate an Occupational Health and Safety Booth at the Fair.
