Phone in cell of Jamaloodin

WILLEMSTAD--The Public Prosecutor’s Office in Curaçao is investigating how former Minister of Finance George Jamaloodin could have had a telephone in his prison cell. The suspect in the murder of PS-leader Helmin Magno Wiels is locked up at the new prison in sister island Bonaire.

The mobile phone was found during an inspection after guards heard Jamaloodin talking. He is the only one in that wing of the jail at night.

The pre-trial detainee falls under the responsibility of the authorities in Curaçao. They announced a probe into not only how the electronic device got into the cell, but also who called Jamaloodin.

The former MFK-minister is behind bars on suspicion of involvement in organising the paid assassination by already convicted hired killers of then Member of Parliament (MP) Wiels on May 5, 2013.
