President Gibbs chairs first Executive Council meeting

MARIGOT--Newly-elected President of the Territorial Council Daniel Gibbs held his first Executive Council meeting of the 2017-2022 mandate on Wednesday, in the presence of first Vice-President Valerie Damaseau, second Vice-President Yawo Nyuiadzi, fourth Vice-President Stephen Patrick and members Marie-Dominique Ramphort and Louis Mussington.

Third Vice-President Annick Petrus was unable to attend. A number of Collectivité technicians were also present.

On the agenda for this first Executive Council meeting were five points: point one concerned granting aid to Lycée students who have been accepted for the 2017 Sciences Po semester. The Council voted unanimously in favour; point two was a vote in favour of the Collectivité taking care of expenses for a St. Martin swimmer who will participate in the Carifta Games in the Bahamas.

In point three, Junior Territorial Council members have requested help with travelling expenses for a trip to Paris. The vote was unanimously in favour.

Point four concerned Association Economique Citoyen (AEC), which is to organise its annual street market on April 7 and 8. It was unanimously decided to waive the rent for occupation of the public domain, an exceptional measure taken by the Council in view of the damage to the economy due to the drainage works undertaken in the centre of Marigot in 2016.

The last point was a vote on the order of the day for the Territorial Council session to take place on April 25, 2017. The agenda points are: 1. Adoption of the rules of the Territorial Council, 2. Confirming indemnities for the functions of elected Councillors, 3. Nomination of the Councillors to the consultative commissions, 4. Nomination of Councillors to exterior organisms, 5. Reimbursement of travel expenses for Councillors on business abroad, and 6. Right of Councillors to take training courses.

April has two Territorial Council meetings. The first is on Saturday, April 15, at 9:00am when the 2017 draft budget will be voted.
