SYNOPSIS:
Pockets of moisture trailing Tropical Storm Fred may cause isolated showers during this forecast period. Additionally, the Atlantic high pressure system will maintain gentle to moderate winds.
Seas are expected to remain slight to moderate during the next few days.
STATE OF THE SEA: Slight to moderate WAVES/SWELLS: 4 to 6 feet
SPECIAL FEATURES:
1. At 11:00 am, the center of Tropical Storm Fred was located about 430 miles west of St. Maarten and moving away from the island near 16 mph. Maximum sustained winds are near 45 mph with higher gusts. Some weakening of this system is expected later today.
Tropical Storm Fred poses no direct threat to St. Maarten.
2. Gradual development of a tropical wave located over the eastern tropical Atlantic is possible and a tropical depression could form early next week. The system is producing disorganized showers and thunderstorms and is moving westward near 20 mph.
The Meteorological Department of St. Maarten will continue to monitor the progress of these systems and update the public accordingly.
