ANGUILLA--Members of the Anguilla Red Cross (ARC) last weekend received training from Bonnie Griswold from the American Red Cross in Water Safety Instructor Training (WSIT) and Bridge First Aid/Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation.
Topics for the training included Hydrodynamic Principles, Stroke Mechanics, Common Teaching Progressions, Teaching Strategies, Holding and Support Techniques, Parent & Child Aquatics and Skills, Managing Participants, Reciprocal Practice, and Observation & Assessment. The class and practical sessions for the training were held at the Anguilla Great House that was a gold sponsor for the training.
Members who were certified for the WSIT were Trevor Queeley, Joseph Williams, Keith Robinson and Frank Canon. Travin Joseph from the St. Maarten Red Cross was also certified. The instructors are now better equipped to facilitate enhanced and effective teaching for water safety and swim techniques to the Anguillan Community. The ultimate goal of the ARC is to reduce the incidents of drowning in Anguilla by promoting swimming and water safety.
The Bridge candidates were Susan Hodge, JodyAnn Dunn, Trevor Queeley, Rodwell Grant and Israel Villegas-Benjamin. This training is deemed important because it provides members with additional capacity to respond to specific requests for American Red Cross First Aid.
