WILLEMSTAD--Former Curaçao Prime Minister Gerrit Schotte and the other coalition members who asked the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) to review their objection against the dissolution of Parliament and calling of snap elections by the then-outgoing Koeiman cabinet received a negative answer, but the applicant on their behalf Rutsel Martha is not giving up.
The case will not be handled as requested because it does not fall within the scope of the emergency provision requested under Rule 39; however, the intention is to continue with a regular procedure and get some kind of a ruling on a Council of Ministers that loses majority support in Parliament sending home the legislature, while there is a different majority willing to form a new government.
The MFK/KdNT/PS/MP/Braam/Dannawi “Group of Twelve”, in the 21-seat Parliament, and their interim cabinet headed by Prime Minister Gilmar Pisas (MFK) have nevertheless decided to no longer oppose the April 28 election. They still disagree with how the governor, backed by the Netherlands, rejected their decision to postpone an early return to the polls but say they are ready for the campaign.
