‘Rhythm ’n’ Sparks’ highlights island’s flora, fauna and dialect

Author Leon Antoine Noel with his book “Rhythm ’n’ Sparks: A Collection of Poems.”

MADAME ESTATE--The flora, fauna and the distinct dialect of St. Maarten/St. Martin are the focus of a new book called Rhythm ’n’ Sparks: A Collection of Poems by local author Leon Antoine Noel.

The book is described by the author as “an interesting way to educate about St. Martin’s flora and fauna, tourism, and culture.”

The collection of poems seeks “to inspire readers to preserve nature, to value age-old traditions and to memorialise customs for future generations.” Readers will not only envision through words the island’s landscapes, turquoise waters and sandy beaches, “but smell its fragrant flowers and salty air under the warm Caribbean sun,” said Noel.

The poet is an advocate for preserving age-old cultural practices and traditions for generations to come and to that end he has incorporated the island’s dialect and a glossary to help readers with colloquial words.

The book is available at Van Dorp stores and via Noel’s website

leonnoelsxm.com . Rhythm ’n’ Sparks is available in paperback, hardcover and e-book.
