MARIGOT--A presentation of materials and the handing over of a cheque was made in Louis Constant Fleming Hospital on Monday afternoon by officials of Rotary Club St. Martin Nord.

The donation of 14,417.38 euros to the hospital came from a financial donation from Rotary International District 1700, which comprises 100 clubs in Occitanie and Andorra, and was collected in late June 2018 to enable the emergency department to purchase an obesity weighing scale, six syringe pumps, four rest chairs on wheels, 50 plastic urinals and eight bedpans with lids.

The cheque was presented to hospital Director Francisco Moreno in the presence of Rotary Club St. Martin Nord Past President Jasmine Sally, President Elect 2018-2019 Jean-Luc De La Haye, Vice-President 2018-2019 and head of the Natural Disasters Commission, René-Jean Duret, Governor of Rotary International District 7020, Patrick Adizua, and Rotary Club member Jean-Gabriel Crespin.

Jasmine Sally was instrumental in coordinating with emergency room nurse Patricia Velasco to determine what materials were needed for the hospital.

“It is all high-quality professional material chosen by the hospital,” noted Sally. “The chairs, for example, cost 2,400 euros each but replacement parts are guaranteed which wasn’t the case before with the old chairs which had to be thrown away.”

René-Jean Duret noted that many Rotary Clubs, Districts, associations or individuals from France and other countries, had mobilised to collect donations or financial support for French St. Martin, following the devastation caused by Hurricane Irma.

“In addition, we also remember that four 3-star chefs (Christophe Bacquié, Arnaud Donckele, Gilles Goujon and Dominique Lory) organised a charity gastronomic dinner on October 15, at Hotel-Restaurant du Castellet, in the Var, France, for more than 90 guests at 550 euros a head to benefit the Rotary club of St. Martin Nord, he said.

The funds raised during this dinner will be used to partially finance two main partnership projects, with Compagnons Bâtisseurs and with Réserve Naturelle, as well as to replace cooking equipment (a pastry oven, two electric cooking plates and a cold room (worth 11,500 euros) at Lycée Professionnel des îles du Nord.
