PHILIPSBURG--St. Maarten Carnival Development Foundation (SCDF) announced on Monday the registration figures for Carnival 2020.
Sticking with its practice of opening registration early, SCDF opened registration for Carnival 2020 in June and closed it for most categories on November 1. Registration for the pageants closed on December 1.
According to SCDF, 1,141 persons have registered for season passes. This is not the same as sales, said SCDF.
There also were 146 registrations for booths, 11 for bands, and 16 in total for junior and senior Carnival troupes. Five persons have registered for the Road March competition and six persons have registered for the Senior Calypso competition.
In the pageant category, four persons have registered for the Junior Pageant, three persons for the Teen Pageant, eight persons for the Senior Pageant, and three persons for the Miss Mature Pageant.
Besides the registration figures for the various local events and parades, SCDF also announced that Carnival’s flagship event Night of the Hit Makers will be back, as well as the One Love Reggae Concert, Bacchanal Sunday, Caribbean Flag Fest and Soulful Company. No decision has yet been taken on Latin Night, said SCDF in a press release on Monday.
“We open registration early on an annual basis because Carnival takes a lot of planning in different phases. Five months was more than enough time for anyone who was interested to register. Now that registration is closed, we have moved on to the next phase of planning, which is coordinating our shows and road events and securing corporate partners,” said SCDF.
