MARIGOT--Eleven scholastic establishments, ten collèges and one Lycèe from the region of Lilloise in France have banded together to collect school supplies for St. Martin and St. Barths and these were recently received.

It was another solidarity gesture to support the islands in the wake of Hurricane Irma, initiated by the Collège L’Atelier Defense de Bavay in the north of the region.

In total 68 boxes of new school supplies representing some 700 kilos were delivered by military aircraft to the airport of Grand Case on April 11. The materials are destined for the schools of French Quarter, two associations on the island and two schools in St. Barths.

The 68 boxes were officially on display in the French Quarter Collège where a ceremony was held to thank the various benefactors.

Several education officials were present including head of education in St. Martin and St. Barths Michel Sanz, school principals, and Secretary-General and Sous- Préfète at the Préfecture Régine Pam.

Partners in the project included the Rectorat de Lille, Rectorat de Guadeloupe, Association Régionale de Guadeloupe 31 (from Institut des Hautes Etudes de Defense Nationale) as well as representatives from academic institutions in Lille and Guadeloupe, the Ministry of Defense, and the National Education Ministry.

Also collaborating was the Délégation Militaire Departmentale 59 which assured coordination with the French Army for logistics, storage and transport to Guadeloupe and on to Grand Case.
