ST. EUSTATIUS--The participants in the second Gospel Annual Interscholastic Prodigious (GAIP) Voice Programme Competition are gearing up for the event, which will be kicking off Thursday for the first round at the Community Centre on Rosemary Lane, starting at 7:30pm.
Vocal coach Cecilia Gittens-Roosberg, said the GAIP Competition is not just a competition, but also a programme. All participants go through a training programme, during which they learn how to sing correctly and how to develop their voices well. They also learn to care for their voices and learn performance skills, Gittens-Roosberg said.
These students will also learn the art of resilience as the programme consists of three rounds of singing contests, the first of which will be taking place on Thursday. The second and third rounds will be held on the same evening of Ascension Day, May 25.
The final remaining four students will then sing their final song in their effort to winning the trophy for the 2017 GAIP Voice Programme Competition.
Pupils of four different primary schools will be participating in the competition: Joviela and Dayna Richardson of Golden Rock School and Kay-Xyrah Warren, Chantal Tolentino and Zoë Reid of Governor de Graaff School.
Ishn Courtar and Tayana Spanner will be representing Bethel Methodist School, while Charisse Woodley, Carmen Suares and Jusheele Gibbs will be representing Lynch Plantation Seventh-Day Adventist School.
The winner’s trophy rotates annually to the school that wins the competition. Gittens-Roosberg encourages the public to come out and support “our youngsters. Do not miss any of these rounds. Come out, and be blessed.”
There will be guest performances by winner of the 2016 Competition Sergina Bryson and by Nathalisha Mills, Merugia Schrewhardt, Reginald Gibbs and Mairys Ascencio Lopez.
