PHILIPSBURG--Six individuals were the first to receive their COVID-19 vaccine at the Dutch Quarter Community Help Desk on Tuesday.
This was part of a pilot project organised by the Ministry of Public Health, Social Development and Labor VSA.
The location was properly set up to accommodate vaccinations, featuring all necessary rooms/spaces for the process. A small, professional team was present to tend to those persons being inoculated.
A representative of the Support Management team at Collective Prevention Services (CPS) said persons who register at the Dutch Quarter Community Help Desk can now indicate their preference to receive their vaccine at that location. The team will further assess the demand for this new location. If this need becomes present, the location may be used.
The team expressed the need to make receiving the vaccine much more accessible to persons in the community, thus it plans to make additional vaccination locations available to the public in the future.
The team shared that other locations in other districts are being looked into, including community centres and large churches. Specific locations could not be provided at the time.
The ministry announced early in its vaccination campaign that the Cole Bay and Dutch Quarter Community Center Help Desks were two possible locations for vaccinations, based on the demand for the COVID-19 vaccinations.
